Springer Nature’s Major Reference Works (MRW) portfolio contains over 600 peer reviewed, high profile trade and academic references from Palgrave Macmillan and Springer References. The portfolio spans science, technology, medicine, humanities, social sciences, business, economics and more, and plays an instrumental part as the foundational starting point for students, researchers, and professionals in need of authoritative, expertly validated summaries of a field, topic or concept.

The Springer Nature MRW program includes over 47 Nobel Laureate contributors and has received many subject area awards. The MRW collection includes impressive offerings such as The Statesman’s Yearbook, The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics, The Palgrave Encyclopaedia of Strategic Management, and The Encyclopedia of Scientific Dating Methods – which was recently decorated with the Mary B. Ansari Best Geoscience Research Resource Work Award.

Springer Nature’s MRWs are published online both as eReferences and so-called ‘Living References’ which are online first, real-time snapshots (article collections) of a reference work in development or being updated.

The MRW portfolio is updated with over 15,000 new reference work entries and 6,000 updates per year. MRWs are available in multiple publication formats (PDF, HTML, ePUb) readable on all electronic devices. In order to facilitate discoverability and usage, our MRWs are fully indexed, available on the SpringerLink online platform with links to other Springer Nature journals, eBooks, and other content, and linked to external indexing sites for a complete research workflow.
