JISC initiative adds content from smaller publishers

Based on the success of the NESLi² initiative, JISC Collections has decided to launch a new initiative, NESLi² SMP, to include online journal content from small and medium sized publishers. In 2007 NESLi² negotiations for online journals generated savings of £3.9 million.

Explaining how the new initiative will benefit education and research, Lorraine Estelle, CEO of JISC Collections, said: ‘Academics, researchers and students across the arts, humanities, medicine, science, social sciences and technology will find these journals immensely useful. The ability for institutions to access over 400 additional essential journal titles at negotiated rates, coupled with the provisions in the NESLi² Model Licence, will enable them to maximise the value of their investment. JISC Collections is delighted to launch the NESLi² SMP initiative so that institutions can choose from a range of journal titles from publishers large and small.’
